Alumni

Every Student. Every Time. 100% Graduation.
At The Highlands School, every student—each with a diagnosed learning difference—graduates from high school. That’s not just a success story. That’s a promise fulfilled.

But Nationally? The Picture Isn’t So Bright.
Only 70.6% of students with disabilities graduate high school.
And when 1 in 5 students has a learning difference, that’s not just a statistic—it’s a national crisis.

At The Highlands School, we don’t just have accommodations, we teach interventional strategies that last a lifetime, and our alumni are proof that The Highlands Way works!

Our students understand that they can, and will, succeed when they apply the strategies learned during their time at The Highlands School!

Our alumni have gone on to attend the following high schools:

  • Archbishop Curley High School
  • Calvert Hall College High School
  • Catholic High School
  • Concordia Preparatory School
  • Friends School of Baltimore
  • Harford Christian School
  • Harford Technical High School
  • John Carroll High School
  • Lab School of Baltimore
  • Loyola High School
  • Maryvale Preparatory School
  • Mt. St. Joseph
  • Notre Dame Preparatory School
  • Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

NATE & SAL

“Highlands Faculty & Staff,
I hope this finds you well. I wanted to give you an update on Nathan Wheeley and Sal Shrader.
After they graduated from Highlands in 2023 they both were accepted and attend Harford Christian. The ELC program and teachers have given outstanding support to our kids and made the transition from Highlands to Harford Christian easy. They are doing so well that on April 10th they were inducted into the Harford Christian Honor Society! We are so proud of the boys at how hard they have worked and how dedicated they have been to their school studies.
I can not thank all of the teachers at Highlands for setting a great foundation for learning.
Here’s a picture of them at the induction ceremony.
Have a great day!
Stacie”

Congratulations, Nathan & Sal, we always knew you were destined for success!

KUBRA

We’re thrilled to celebrate Kubra, a proud Trailblazers 4-H Member and 2024 THS graduate! Kubra qualified to represent Harford County with her dog Kody at the Maryland State Fair’s 4-H Dog Show on September 7, 2024. After months of dedication and hard work, Kubra and Kody earned a fantastic 1st place in Showmanship and 2nd place in Obedience! A huge shoutout to Kubra, Kody, and Ms. Lisa for their incredible efforts.

Congratulations, Kubra! We are so proud of you and all you’ve accomplished!

ALEXANDER & HENRY

Alexander and Henry are starting their senior and freshman years of high school, respectively. They have such fond memories of Highlands School and their teachers. This year, Alexander is taking AP Psychology, and when the class was being assessed for background knowledge, he was the only student who could answer questions about the human brain and how it communicates. He casually said, “These things are common sense,” but I truly believe that what he learned at Highlands made a huge difference for him.

I just wanted to express my gratitude. I remember how challenging it was at times for Alexander to memorize this information, but it really did pay off. I’m thrilled to share that Alexander took advantage of an early admissions cycle and has already been accepted to Montclair State University for next year (Fall 2025).

Thank you so much for everything you did for Alexander and Henry—and all you continue to do.
