Welcome
The Highlands School educates students from kindergarten through 8th grade who have learning differences and achievement gaps. The program is designed to provide a holistic approach to learning, transforming students into confident and independent learners. It fosters optimum growth in overall educational competence, addresses skill deficits, and prepares students for successful reintegration into traditional school settings.
The Highlands School student has demonstrated difficulty in one or more areas of skill development, including:
- Language Based Learning Difficulties such as dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia
- Mild receptive and/or mild expressive difficulties affecting speech, language, communication
- Language Arts (reading, writing, spelling, phonemic awareness, vocabulary development)
- Mathematics calculation, problem solving, visual-spatial perception, sequential memory)
- ADHD affecting Executive Function such as time management, organization, task initiation and execution, self-monitoring, and attentional control)
- Perceptual motor integration (writing/copying tasks)
- Writing as it impacts planning, sequencing, execution, and physical writing
Admissions Checklist
Step 1 — Submit an Inquiry Form
Begin your Highlands School journey by completing our online inquiry form.
Once submitted, a member of our Admissions Team will reach out to guide you through the next steps.
Step 2 — Initial Conversation with Admissions
To better understand your child’s learning profile, we request a recent, comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation administered by a qualified psychologist, if available.
Alternatively, you may provide any of the following:
- Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Service plan
- 504 plan
- Speech and language evaluations
These documents help us ensure that The Highlands School is the right fit and that we can create the best possible learning environment for your child.
Step 3 — Family Visit
Families are invited to tour our campus and meet in person with:
- Director of Enrollment
- Director of Student Support
- Head of School
This visit provides an opportunity to explore our programs, ask questions, and discuss your child’s needs in greater detail.
Step 4 — Application Submission
After your family visit, the Director of Enrollment will provide access to our secure online application.
- Application Fee: $125 (non-refundable, paid online).
- Teacher Recommendations (Required):
- Two teacher recommendations are required: one from your child’s current English teacher and one from their Math teacher.
- Download, sign, and provide the forms to your child’s teachers.
- Recommendations should not be completed before December 1, 2025.
- Completed forms must be emailed directly from the teachers to The Highlands School.
- Authorization to Release Records:
- Download and complete the Authorization to Release Records Form.
- Provide the signed form to your child’s current school to authorize the release of transcripts and report cards from the past two years.
- Records should be sent directly to The Highlands School by email.
Step 5 — Evaluation and Assessment
Applicants complete an on-campus evaluation to assess strengths and areas for growth in reading, writing, and math.
Results are shared during a meeting with the Director of Student Support and are used to guide the development of your child’s individualized learning experience.
Step 6 — Student Shadow Visit
Prospective students are invited to spend a day on campus to experience life at The Highlands School firsthand.
They’ll participate in classes, interact with peers, and meet teachers, giving them an authentic look at our learning environment.
Step 7 — Assessment Consultation
Following the evaluation and shadow visit, families meet with the Director of Student Support and the Director of Enrollment to review results and discuss next steps in the admissions process.
Step 8 — Tuition Assistance (Optional)
Families seeking financial aid must complete the Tuition Assistance Application through Clarity:
- Opens: September 2, 2025
- Deadline: January 12, 2026
- Financial aid decisions are shared with student enrollment contracts.

Step 9 — Application Deadline
All application materials and checklist items are due by Monday, January 12, 2026.
Applications received after this date will be considered as space permits.
Application Review & Decision Timeline
- Once all checklist items are complete, applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
- Admissions decisions will be communicated on Monday, February 16, 2026.
Rolling admissions continue after this date if space is available.
